Product Description

Karma Ni-Cr-Al-Fe Precision Resistance Alloy Foil

The Karma Ni-Cr-Al-Fe precision resistance alloy foil is an advanced thin-gauge material engineered for high-stability strain gauge sensors, precision resistors, and load cell transducers. Manufactured through a controlled cold-rolling process with bright annealing treatment, this foil delivers consistent electrical resistivity and a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), ensuring accurate and repeatable measurements across a wide operating temperature range.

Alloy Composition and Microstructure

Karma alloy belongs to the nickel-chromium-aluminum-iron family, with a nominal composition of Ni 73-75%, Cr 19-21%, Al 2-3%, and Fe as the balance. The controlled addition of aluminum enhances oxidation resistance and refines the grain structure during annealing, resulting in superior mechanical strength and thermal stability. Each production batch undergoes vacuum induction melting (VIM) to minimize impurities and ensure uniform chemical distribution throughout the foil matrix.

Electrical Performance

Parameter Typical Value
Resistivity at 20°C 1.33 μΩ·m ±5%
TCR (20-100°C) ±10 to ±20 ppm/°C

Surface Quality and Edge Condition

All Karma alloy foils are supplied with a bright, oxide-free surface finish achieved through controlled-atmosphere bright annealing. The cold-rolled surface exhibits a uniform matte-satin appearance with Ra ≤0.4 μm surface roughness. Edge condition is precision slit with minimal burr height (≤5% of foil thickness), suitable for direct photolithographic patterning in strain gauge manufacturing processes.

Key Applications

  • Strain Gauges: Primary sensing element for load cells, pressure transducers, torque sensors, and displacement measurement systems
  • Precision Resistors: Bulk metal foil resistors, current-sense shunt resistors, and metrology-grade reference standards
  • Aerospace Instrumentation: High-reliability sensors for flight control surfaces, engine monitoring, and structural health monitoring
  • Industrial Weighing: Load cell foil for truck scales, platform scales, hopper weighing, and filling systems
  • Medical Devices: Force-sensing elements in surgical robotics, infusion pumps, and patient monitoring equipment

Quality Assurance

Each production lot undergoes comprehensive electrical and mechanical testing, including four-wire resistivity measurement, TCR characterization across the full temperature range, tensile testing per ASTM E8, and surface profilometry. Material certificates with traceable batch numbers are provided with every shipment. Our facility is ISO 9001:2015 certified and all products comply with RoHS directive requirements.

Packaging and Shipment

Foil rolls are individually vacuum-sealed in anti-static barrier bags with desiccant packs to prevent oxidation during storage and transit. Each roll is wound on a rigid plastic core and cushioned with polyethylene foam. Outer packaging consists of reinforced export-grade wooden crates with moisture-proof lining. Custom labeling, private label, and neutral packaging options are available upon request.
