AZ92D straight-cut magnesium filler wire in 2.4 mm diameter, supplied in 1000 mm rods for rebuilding and repair welding of high-purity die-cast magnesium components. The high-purity D variant controls iron, nickel and copper to low limits, keeping the corrosion resistance of the repaired zone close to that of the original die casting — a decisive point for gearbox housings, valve covers and structural automotive castings.
- AZ92D Grade
- 2.4 mm Diameter
- Straight Cut 1000 mm
- TIG / GTAW
- Vacuum Packed
- High-purity D grade with iron at 0.005% max, nickel at 0.002% max and copper at 0.030% max.
- Low impurity levels protect the corrosion resistance of the repaired area on salt-spray-exposed automotive parts.
- 2.4 mm diameter delivers enough deposition rate to fill porosity, cracks and machining errors in thick cast sections.
- Chemistry matched to AZ91D and AZ92 die castings for consistent hardness and machining response after repair.
- Stable arc and clean surface limit slag islands and porosity in multi-pass build-up.
- Rods are straightened and cut to 1000 mm, so they stay aligned in manual and orbital torches.
| Element | Composition (% by weight) |
|---|---|
| Aluminium (Al) | 8.5 – 9.5 |
| Zinc (Zn) | 0.50 – 1.50 |

| Parameter | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Process | AC TIG (GTAW), stringer bead technique on cast repair |
| Current for 2.4 mm filler | 110 – 170 A, AC |
| Shielding gas | Argon 99.99%, 14 – 20 L/min |
| Joint preparation | Grind out defect to sound metal, degrease, pre- and post-clean |
| Preheat | 150 – 200 °C for sections above 8 mm |
| Post weld | Slow cool in dry insulation, stress relieve at 200 °C if specified |
Magnesium is welded in AC mode to break down the refractory surface oxide. A clean, freshly brushed joint, argon shielding and short arc length give the most stable results. Keep filler rods in the sealed bag until the moment of use, and store opened bundles in a dry cabinet.
- Straight rods bundled in 1 kg, 2 kg or 5 kg lots, wrapped in VCI paper, sealed in aluminium foil vacuum bag with desiccant, then packed in rigid tube or plywood case.
- Net weight per case 20 to 25 kg. Custom bundles, printed labels and neutral packing are available.
- Stock sizes ship in 7 to 10 working days; custom diameters and cut lengths in 15 to 20 working days.
- Diameters 1.2 mm to 3.0 mm are held in regular production, so mixed-size orders can be consolidated into one shipment.
- ISO 9001:2015 controlled production from billet extrusion to final drawing and packing.
- Diameter, ovality, straightness, surface and chemistry are inspected lot by lot; spark and XRF checks are recorded.
- OEM service: customer brand printed on label and case, custom cut length, custom bundle weight.
- Sample orders from 20 kg are accepted so the filler can be trialled on your own joint configuration before volume purchase.
Please confirm grade, diameter, straight cut length, bundle weight and estimated annual quantity when sending an inquiry. We will reply with the matching technical data sheet and the current price per kg.
