AZ92A straight-cut magnesium filler wire in 2.0 mm diameter, supplied in 1000 mm rods for TIG welding of high-aluminium magnesium castings and thin-wall housings. The 9% aluminium level produces a fluid, well-wetting weld pool that closes gaps on die-cast and thixomoulded electronics enclosures, while the lower melting range compared with AZ31 reduces distortion on walls of 1.0 to 2.0 mm.

- Diameter2.0 mm
- FormStraight cut, 1000 mm
- ProcessTIG / GTAW
- PackagingVacuum packed
- Aluminium level near 9% matches AZ91 and AZ92 castings, giving consistent colour and hardness across repaired areas.
- Fluid weld pool wets thin walls and narrow ribs, which suits laptop, tablet and camera body housings.
- Lower melting range than AZ31 filler reduces heat input and limits distortion on 1.0 to 2.0 mm walls.
- Controlled impurity levels keep crack sensitivity low when welding restrained die-cast sections.
- Mirror-bright drawn surface limits surface oxide carried into the arc.
- Straight 1000 mm rods allow precise arc length control on small cosmetic welds.
| Element | Composition (% by weight) |
|---|---|
| Aluminium (Al) | 8.3 – 9.2 |
| Zinc (Zn) | 1.60 – 2.40 |

- TIG welding and cosmetic repair of magnesium laptop, tablet and camera housings
- Joining of thin-wall AZ91 and AZ92 die-cast electronics enclosures
- Repair of thixomoulded and die-cast magnesium covers, bezels and frames
- Small cosmetic weld repair on consumer electronics where surface finish matters

| Parameter | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Process | AC TIG (GTAW) with foot or pedal current control |
| Current for 2.0 mm filler | 90 – 140 A, AC |
| Shielding gas | Argon 99.99 %, 12 – 18 L/min |
| Joint preparation | Remove coating and oxide, degrease, clamp to limit movement |
| Preheat | 100 – 150 °C for cast sections above 5 mm |
| Interpass temperature | Below 150 °C to control distortion on thin walls |
Magnesium is welded in AC mode to break down the refractory surface oxide. A clean, freshly brushed joint, argon shielding and a short arc length give the most stable results. Keep filler rods in the sealed bag until the moment of use, and store opened bundles in a dry cabinet.
- Straight rods bundled in 1 kg, 2 kg or 5 kg lots, wrapped in VCI paper, sealed in an aluminium foil vacuum bag with desiccant, then packed in a rigid tube or plywood case.
- Net weight per case 20 to 25 kg. Custom bundles, printed labels and neutral packing are available.
- Stock sizes ship in 7 to 10 working days; custom diameters and cut lengths in 15 to 20 working days.
- Diameters 1.2 mm to 3.0 mm are held in regular production, so mixed-size orders can be consolidated into one shipment.
- ISO 9001:2015 controlled production from billet extrusion to final drawing and packing.
- Diameter, ovality, straightness, surface and chemistry are inspected lot by lot; spark and XRF checks are recorded.
- OEM service: customer brand printed on label and case, custom cut length, custom bundle weight.
- Sample orders from 20 kg are accepted so the filler can be trialled on your own joint configuration before volume purchase.
Please confirm grade, diameter, straight cut length, bundle weight and estimated annual quantity when sending an inquiry. We will reply with the matching technical data sheet and the current price per kg.
